45th REUNION

From the Class of 1961

We are planning a reunion in 2006 for all classes 59-62.  Everyone said last time that it was the best ever and they didn't want to wait another 10 years to have another.  Jimmy and I will be moving back to Houston area this summer so it will be easier to plan.

REUNION NEWS

There seems to be a ground swell of demand for the 45th Reunion to be a combined '59-'62 group class reunion. Let's us hear from you concerning this format.  We have had a Reunion Questionnaire come back with a suggestion that we have the reunion in a non Houston Location...ummmm!

Reunion Comments

  • Recognition of deceased classmates
  • Special funny stories about classmates
  • Door prizes won by answering trivia questions from the 50's
  • Send out a Missing Classmate list in time to locate and invite those we can find.
  • Reception/dinner for the first event in the evening
  • Maybe some kind of tour or a picnic or barbeque or both
  • Eat, visit, short self-intros
  • Would not need dancing or alcohol
  • Dance on tables!
  • I'm easy....just a good get-together.....

Rosana Hernandez' son appointed Dean

The structure of success

Frank Patterson wanted to make films, not film schools.  But one thing led to another when he brought his filmmaking expertise first to the classroom and then to the administrator’s office.  A musician who “grew up in a recording studio,” watching his musician father at work, Patterson toured with rockabilly bands in his native Texas, even landing a record deal.  But it was his friendship with a college friend who was making a film that forged the connection between his interest in storytelling through music and the world of motion pictures.

“I was known as a composer,” he says of this time when he began to score commercials and feature films.  But his love of the entire world of production soon found Patterson writing his own stories and working in Los Angeles as a director for hire of low-budget genre films.  His plan to gain entry into the business was to shoot genre films that would position him to pitch the personal films he wanted to make.  Although he was in demand as an on-budget, on-time genre director, he couldn't get a meeting on his personal projects.  Discouraged, he went back to Texas to devote more time to his own scripts, preparing to return and “knock on doors in Hollywood until I got in on my own terms.” Fate intervened when Patterson was offered a job at the new film school at Florida State University.  Once there, he found the fledging program was in dire need of structure.  The result?  “I became a program builder from day one.” Bringing his passion for production to his newly-found interest in creating structure carried Patterson through nine years at Florida State, a stint at the University of Texas, Austin, and two years at the L.A. Film School.  But it’s as Associate Dean and School Director at Chapman that he has at last found a home.  Patterson sees great things in store for the talented students and faculty he finds at Chapman: in a word…”We have everything we need to become the premiere film school in the country.” And along the way, Patterson found time to produce his first “personal film,” which premiered in theaters in 1999 to rave reviews, a Hollywood success he structured on his own terms.

CorrectionIn 2003 Florida State University picked Frank as Dean of the Film School where he now serves! Way to go Frank!

Congratulations

to Rosana for a job well done. We know you are proud of your son

More of Rosana's family are posted on our Falcon photo album pages
